Movie Description: Hugo is an orphan boy living in the walls of a train station in 1930s Paris. He learned to fix clocks and other gadgets from his father and uncle which he puts to use keeping the train station clocks running. The only thing that he has left that connects him to his dead father is an automaton (mechanical man) that doesn’t work without a special key which Hugo needs to find to unlock the secret he believes it contains. On his adventures, he meets with a shopkeeper, George Melies, who works in the train station and his adventure-seeking god-daughter. Hugo finds that they have a surprising connection to his father and the automaton, and he discovers it unlocks some memories the old man has buried inside regarding his past

Pros: EVERY DAMN THING! I’m so in love with this movie. It was so bright and fun, but at the same time it made my heart heart. The special effects were beautiful. The acting was great. I can’t even put into words how I felt watching this. I was sobbing at the end of it because of how beautiful this movie was as an entirety. I honestly think Ben Kingsley stole the whole movie. His acting was spot on. He made me cry so much. I just felt for his character. I wanted to hug Hugo the whole entire time. Sacha’s character was so much more complex then he led on to be. I couldn’t decide if I hated him or loved him. I love how this movie was an adventure movie, but also a glorious tribute to film history, and how people love going to the movies, and seeing a film of something that could never happen in real life. It was all so romantic in a way. The whole movie just had like a child-like sense of wonder that you don’t see very often. I could seriously gush about this movie for hours. I watched it three times before I sent it back. And I want to watch it again just talking about it. I haven’t loved a movie this much since the first time I watched Donnie Darko.

Cons: Absolutely nothing.

Would I recommend it? Yes! This movie is perfect for every age and type of person. If you didn’t like this movie then you seriously don’t have a soul.
